Several celebs, including Kumarmanglam Birla, Yash Chopra, Harman Baweja, Alka Yagnik, Farah Khan and Talat Aziz were in attendance. Surprise guest Aamir Khan said he was delighted to be in the august company of strong and independent women -- "God created both man and woman and She made them equal," he quipped.

Magazine and founder of awards, "This is the eighth year in a row that we have felicitated women achievers in various fields for their contribution to their respective professions and society as a whole. Through this platform we recognise the achievements of women from a whole gamut of fields including music, television, sports, fashion, literature, dance, journalism, social service, film, business and advertising. Every year our felicitation is centered on our campaign against female foeticide called 'Beti', to highlight the issue of gender bias and the alarmingly disproportionate male: female ratio in the country. It is a malaise that has struck all sections of society and needs to be weeded out at the earliest."

Smt Rajshree Birla: Recipient of the GR8! Golden Laurel

Now president of the Indian classical music training/ research center Sangeet Kala Kendra, this lady was married to the late Aditya Vikram Birla and the couple founded the center together. Born to a Marwari family settled in Madurai, Smt Rajshree Birla always had a passion for music and has now instituted the Aditya Vikram Birla Award that awards Rs 1.5 lakh to selected musicians each year in the view of helping keep their art alive.

Apart from music, this eminemt lady also works for the cause of empowerment of women as well as education. She also finds the time for social welfare.
