Nightmare of Flight 814, Message Board. Views verbatim, edited lightly.

Name: Paddy
Email: Pradeep_Dwivedi @hotmail.com
Message: Send in an NSG Commando mission to storm out these clowns who have hijacked the plane!

Name: nandini
Email: dini@2-cool.com
Message: Listen to their demands...and let 'em free the passengers in return... there's nuthing else that can be done.

Name: Angry
Email: silleeputty@hotmail.com
Message: India has National Security Guards and Marine Commandos. They are highly trained units meant of anti-terrorist threats. They should have been called out the moment this started. But the time is not too late.

Let the message be sent that India will not be bullied, and she can protect her own citizens. And let this rescue go down in history as one of the most well-planned and successful. The alternatives are not very pleasant.

Message: I am observing this events since yesterday from Rediff and from some of the paper also, but as per my view the government should take better decision which can save 183 passengers from the Airbus. Rather taking some risky steps, they can go for soft talk with those people.

Message: The Govt. should pressurise the Taliban Govt. by all ways and means. The Govt. should not hesitate in taking the help from the CIA of the US.

Message: Indian Govt. has maintained the tradition of getting up only after the unfortunate incidents has happened. If we take a close look at our domestic airports itself except Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, rest almost all airports are like cattle sheds (eg. Mangalore Airport, which I recently visited.

One can walk any place without any check). In this situation, why we should blame our neighbours when our own airports are in a mess. Same is true for Indore airport. In Jaipur, one can walk any place in the airport. It is high time the govt. takes serious steps before the next incident.

Message: Never accede to the hijackers' demands. Send over an Indian commando force or get some international help to storm the plane and kill the hijackers.

Message: Kill the hijackers so no one could repeat the same.

Name: Vinnie Kura

Message: Three major objectives:
1.Get back our people safely. Do whatever possible to free them.
2. Talk to all countries does not matter whether it is Pakistan, US, whoever it is.
3. Involve everyone to solve this problem, unconditionally agree to the demands temporarily.
4. Aim for the future so that nothing of this happens. We should make ourselves heard; let every one (countries and terrorists) know who we are. We have to be ruthless, should not leave any nail loose in the coffin, never rest. Protect ourselves is the first priority. Come On INDIA INDIA INDIA.

Message: Hi...Rediff.. Firstly, I would like to express my sincere grievances for the families of those passengers and the crew. Since we know the aircraft's whereabouts we should plan in advance where the aircraft is headed for and then station a highly trained commando & crime experts try & get them into negotiations & then storm the aircraft. We will be losing some lives but, at least well be sending a strong message. When so many soldiers laid down their lives , I think a few can sacrifice here too.

NO WAY SHOULD WE CONCIEVE THEIR DEMANDS. EVEN IF WE GET THEM ALIVE, SHOOT THEM IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS, so that the crazy bastards know what they've done... Bye.

Name: K Ganesan
Email: gansan99@yahoo.com
Message: send in the commandos, massacre all the hijackers with minimal loss of life to the passengers.

Name: Kapil
Email: kapil@kapil.com
Message: The best would be to send a commando team to Afghanistan and kill the hijackers. Doing anything else will send wrong signals to other terrorist groups and show that the government is weak.

They have already killed 5 passengers in cold blood who are blind-folded. There is no assurance of the safety of passengers even if the militants are released. No one will give political asylum to the militants and they will definitely take/kill more hostages anyway. The militants currently in captivity can be later given to the waiting passengers for an equal treatment.

Name: sakharam pande
Email: sain@pol.net.in
Message: The government should take a bold & firm action against the hijackers, irrespective of their nationality and ungenuine demands at the earliest to avoid further loss of lives.

Name: Ramprasath V
Email: ramprasath_v@yahoo.com
Message: Well there are very few options for the Indian Govt.
1. Request/Force the Taliban govt. to negotiate with the hijackers and try to release all the passengers and crew.
2. Send a commando team to Kandahar, get into the plane rescue the passengers/crew. rams.

Email: vmeera@goplay.com
Message: The Indian govt. must contact other nations like the US and get their support in this matter. I think the US help will not only save innocent passengers but also will catch hold of those hijackers. WE MUST NOT LOSE ANY MORE LIVES.

Name: swati
Email: swati90210@backstreet-boys.com
Message: I agree that what Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee said this morning, and I think at present the government should not agree to the hijackers demands as if their mission is accomplished, then other criminal groups will also be encouraged to perform such acts.

I think that the government should stay put, and try to have relief camps for family and friends of those on the plane, or those who were released. I think that the government should not fulfill the hijackers' demands.

Name: karambir singh
Email: karambirsingh@hotmail.com
Message: I think the government should not have allowed the flight to take off from India, cause now we have to negotiate with other countries. I think they should now not negotiate but find some way to get the passengers out and then arrest the hijackers.

I think we should put some drugs (for unconsciousness) in the food packets for passengers, including the hijackers and the crew, and when they are drugged we should send the commandos in and catch them. Or we should go on negotiating with them till they are tired. After all, they also need some sleep and, at that moment, we should strike them.

Name: ashish sapra
Email: pg_wode@yahoo.com
Message: there are two options as I see:
1. India can ask UN to pressurise the military groups who have taken responsibility, to relent. Since, the military group won't like to go against UN, as they see UN generally as the third party that should be involved.
2. India can request the Taliban to ask the military group to relent. Any form of military action at this stage shall lead to lots of bloodshed as the hijackers have made their brutal instincts, pretty clear.

Name: Adwait Kulkarni
Email: adwaitsk@yahoo.com
Message: The government should take this as a Lesson for future cautions. They should not bow before the demand. Though the safety of the passengers is crucial, it is now more in the hands of the passengers to protect themselves than the government or any other external forces.

There are 150 of them on the plane and only six-seven militants. Someone has to rise to the occasion, maybe make a sacrifice. But that one initiative would encourage the rest of the passengers to overpower the militants. This would be a lesson for everyone of those out there who dare to take India and their citizens for granted.

Name: anupama menon
Email: aski@satyam.net.in
Message: The govt should not compromise They should get someone who is an expert in such matters to negotiate with the hijackers in order to convince them to give up.

Message: Secure safe release of passengers But quickly try terrorists thru special courts and either release or award capital punishment. Shouldn't have let it out of Indian soil.

Message: First and foremost don't repeat the mistake (that of allowing the flight to move from Amritsar).Use head. Now just head to the demands of those cowards, get the passengers back.

Later. Don't shut up and sit, get to the root of the trouble and remove it completely, like Chanakya did to the grass(root). One has to remove the root cause of all troubles. I am sure there are hundreds of good brains to tackle this issue wisely. Go ahead.

Message: The first thing is seal off Nepal's economic routes, just as a pressure tactic. I have been to that airport and in the same plane a couple of years ago, and was quite astonished at the laxity of security over there.

The second thing to be done is to get some hardcore negotiator to get the max no. of passengers in the bargain. Allow the IAF to spread its muscles, showing some kind of offensive maneuvering won't be a disadvantage for the country.

Now that it has been established that this has been done by some Islamic fanatics -- read Bin Laden, and the world opinion tilting in our direction. I am sure there is no point for the govt to keep its tails between it legs and call the shots.

Then tell them that for each one of ours we will kill ten of theirs. Also kill Pervez Musharraf's son in the US so the bastard feels the pain.

Learn from the Israelis. It took the death of six million Jews to make Israel strong. Don't wait for six million Indians to die. By the way, tell Sharad Yadav to learn how to speak clearly and the next time the CIA warns you, listen to them (first Kargil, now the hijack).

The question is does the BJP have the courage?

Enough of Gandhiji, time to get Bose in action!! Get tough. You make us feel helpless, demoralized and ashamed of being an Indian. Rise above your stupid ineffective mentality. We are sick of you worried of some stupid human rights and your votebank. We want to feel STRONG!

At least for the future, the Government should do some things: 1. Do not allow any flight of Indian Airlines or Air India to take off from any airport where there is no security control. 2. The Indian Government should have genuine care, and control at the airports from where Indian flights depart to land in India.

Message: India has already initiated a dialogue with Afghan govt, which I personally feel is false. I personally feel that the real culprits are roaming scot-free in Afghanistan, ie Kandhar.

The Afghan Taliban is playing a trick on us and the whole world media. I personally feel that there are more than 10 people in the plane who are hijackers, since the people are blindfolded, the culprits are not being identified.

There has to be a joint military operation with US military officials to storm the aircraft and release all the passengers. I also feel that the talks should carry on between the Indian government and the Afghan Taliban, with the UN putting pressure on the Taliban to release the passengers safely.

I personally feel that India should not wage a war with either Pakistan nor the Taliban now, for it is very much clear that there is the hand of Pakistan in such a barbaric & heinous activity. The world body should also realise that there is a 100 per cent chance of a third world war after the 10th of January 2000, for the holy month of Ramzan ends then.

That is the period when this Bin Laden, the terrorist, will strike his full power on USA first, then Russia and then India. I pray to the almighty to help all good people and those with a good cause. I also pray thee to give strength to those stranded passengers onboard. May Allah, Jesus, Ram be with them and all those who fight against terrorism. Long live Humanity

If I would have been asked what exactly to do with this situation, well, it's a bit risky but this can surely work: Tell the pilot, with a coded message, to try keep the plane on air as long as the fuel doesn't go down. These people are more afraid of losing their lives. They should try to land it somewhere around a military installation and that too in an emergency situation. The experts can figure the rest out and this is no kiddin' stuff.

Message: The govt. should not waste time and should either try and get the aircraft back into India or send its commando troop to Afghanistan after diplomatic negotiations with Afghanistan.

Thereafter the commandos should storm into the plane and arrest/shoot the hijackers with minimum or no casualties of passengers or crew members. Any compromise at this stage to meet hijackers' demand shall open the "Door" for future act of terrorism.

We all should accept this as a challenge and be ready to lay down our lives for the well being of our other countrymen & women & citizens in future like what our brave soldiers did during Kargil conflict. We should not forget that they were also brave sons of our motherland & they also had families, parents & relatives behind them to support. Therefore, no one at any level should be afraid and be coward. Also there is no guarantee that once you accept the hijackers demand, there will be no bloodbath or innocent killings.

It's a larger question of national security. It is an aircraft today, Kargil tomorrow, could be anything the next day. How long do we have to see these dramas unfold and when are we going to learn bitter lessons.

What utility are our elite agencies dealing with intelligence, counter-espionage, etc?

Have we become so callous that we can't even think of a plan of action, much less the action itself? What a shame!

Message: The first and most important thing that our government must do is to get our people on board unharmed outside at any cost.

Storming the plane using commandos is just not practical when the plane is sitting right where there is one of the most backward, primitive and fundamentalist Muslim government that the world has ever known. The hijackers, if Muslim, have nothing at all to fear because the Taliban is going to be a silent observer at best.

We Indians should not even think of wasting precious time trying to negotiate with the Taliban because it is absolutely of no use. In brief, the best solution to this tragic situation is to concede the demands that the hijackers have made clear. Even if it means releasing some dreaded Muslim criminals in Indian jails, simply because these hijackers will not hesitate to kill everyone as they have already demonstrated to the whole world.

They are Muslim fundamentalists and will do anything including killing themselves if required, in the name of Allah. Of course, that won't happen before they kill all the passengers. Hence, it is very clear that the government of India should without thinking twice give in to the demands of the terrorists and safeguarding the lives of those on board, which is of utmost importance right now.

Message: The first priority of the Indian Govt must be the safety of the passengers & crew on board.

But this cannot be at the cost of compromising with the hijackers. The Indian Govt must not accede to their demands for releasing the persons whom they have named. Some method must be found to offload the hijackers in Afghanistan itself. Maybe the Taliban Govt could be persuaded to give them political asylum.

In the long-term, the Govt must ensure safety and tight security at ALL airports. Storming the plane in Afghan territory, I think, is ruled out. I hope all the remaining passengers & crew make it out safely.

Remember, any weakness on our part will only encourage other terrorist groups to engage in more such acts. Finally, investigate the security at Kathmandu airport. Be strong, India, the world is watching.

Name: D.Mishra

Message: No, do not kill those bastards. Get them out alive and let each passenger claw out each part of their bodies, piece by piece. Record the whole thing on film and broadcast this to all those fundamentalist Islamists who perform such dastardly acts on the pretext of religion.

No matter what we say, it is virtually guaranteed that if any of our relatives were on board, we would have asked the Govt. to succumb to their demands. We also know how our brave security people risked and maybe lost their lives capturing this bastard Azhar. Hard decision for anyone to take.

Usually it is best to keep negotiating till you hit the wall. Then do whatever is necessary to get your men out. However the real need is to set Kashmir and all its separatists straight. Do another Chechnya and do it to completion. Enough of doing this in a civilized manner. These uncouth, uncultured barbarians do not understand that language. Wipe them for once and the world will be a better place. May these and those who even dream of supporting these bastards rot in eternal hell. Even hell will be a reward for such monsters!

Establish good rapport with Taliban and PM should be directly in touch with them to ensure that the plane does not take for another destination. Also, make sure that nobody else than the rescuers get into the plane and nobody has else should not have any communication other than the officials involved. 3. Over night send a satellite driven missile either from India or Russia and destroy Bin Laden's hide-outs.

Steps forever: 1. As soon any terrorist is nabbed he should not be kept in remand and straightaway kill him on the name of encounter. Only if they are kept alive they will create problems like this.

It is more than 30 hours now. Where are the Indian NSGs, commandos or.... Are these people just limited to providing security for all these useless politicians only? These forces could now prove a point and show that they really are world class and can provide security to common people also, that they are not just gun-wielding status symbols for all these high-profile no-good politicians.

Message: Personally I am very disappointed with the Nepalese govt. and the Indian authorities.

However now that we are in this situation, we need to be a little more proactive, basically get off our butts!

We need to warn the hijackers that there is no way we are going to release any terrorists (remember the Rubaiya episode and its aftermath), and we should send some special forces to get back out plane. We don't need our special forces to protect our corrupt ministers, we need them to protect our citizens.

If the Taliban doesn't help us get our people, we should bomb all suspected terrorist training camps since we do have some big naval ships in that area.

Let's try doing what the Americans generally do (blow up their enemies and save their citizens). Let's not be our good old no-action bureaucratic self. As I said earlier we 'must not' release any terrorists and come up with some back up plans if things do not work. The Mossad (Israeli secret service) are very good at this stuff. We should take their help.

Finally if, god forbid, anything happens to those 161 Indian passengers, we should bomb all terrorist bases in Pakistan, like the US. Portray it as our right to protect Indian citizens and property! I know it's a drastic step with many consequences but we need to do something drastic if we are to same the situation and teach other would be hijackers an important lesson: NO ONE HIJACKS AND KILLS INDIAN CITIZENS!

Meanwhile, figure out the suspects from passenger's list and released the passenger's descriptions. Use the Nepalese airport authorities' help (it's not the time to argue who is right or wrong). Run thorough background checks on the suspects. Fit tracking devices in the released prisoner's bodies (either surgically or otherwise). It needs skill but could be done without the prisoners being aware of it. Get the plane and passengers safely to India. Track the prisoners, annihilate them and their associates. Moral of this story to the terrorists would be: "You can't bake the cake and eat it too!". PEACE!! Om Shantih Shantih!!

Message: It is same story repeated again and again. It is no surprise that Islamic fundamentalists are profiled across the globe for terrorist activities. No compromise should be made with these Mullahs.

We should send the commandos, of course with the Taliban's co-operation, and bust these guys for good. No one should make our nation feel week and vulnerable and we proud to be Indians!

Message: Kill the hijackers. Kill a couple of Kashmiri militants. Replace flights to Nepal and Dhaka permanently with bus and train services. Try all the Nepali airport officials in Indian courts, holding them in Indian jails until the trial ends.

Message: The govt. has a few choices right now after losing its chance at Amritsar. 1 Indian govt. can have negotiations with the Taliban and have the Taliban provide political asylum to the terrorists in exchange for the lives of passengers. 2 Send a covert counter-insurgency group, which specializes in these kinds of hostage situations, to the airport and attempt a recovery. I think the second option is more "honorable", considering that it remains India's duty not to negotiate with such terrorists, keeping in mind that international pressure cannot be brought onto Taliban so easily.

Message: This barbaric act is not a nightmare but a clear sign to be more prepared further to come. I think we should be smart enough to inform the United Nations and other countries to work hand to hand and take joint action to get rid off such terrorist organisation. We should not be fulfil these terrorist's demands. Rather, we should be bold enough, so that we would not do same mistake what Mufti Mohammed.Sayeed did.

Message: THIS IS THE WORK OF AFGHANISTAN, LADEN AND PAKISTAN. KILL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING ASKED TO BE RELEASED PUBLICLY AND SET AN EXAMPLE SO THIS IS NOT REPEATED. KILL 100 MILITANTS FOR EACH INDIAN KILLED ON THE PLANE.

Message: I can't believe they let that plane take off from Amritsar. I think at least now the govt should act firmly. Don't negotiate with terrorists. Just a few months back 600 of our best men gave their lives in kargil. Let's not throw away those hard fought gains by negotiating now.
