ndia Abroad is 39+ years old. Older than any other Indian publication in North America.
The first issue of India Abroad -- just a handful of smudgy black and white pages -- hit the newsstands in the 1970s in the last days of the Vietnam War, when America was being rocked by bitter anti-war protests. In India, Indira Gandhi was all-supreme after emerging victorious in the Bangladesh war.
India Abroad had a mission of linking Indians settled in the US and Canada with a thoughtful roundup of news from home.
Over the years India Abroad has grown into a leading newspaper for Indian Americans and is today considered the voice of this influential community. In 2001 Rediff.com India Ltd acquired the publication.
The newspaper is published from New York City, the Tristate area, Chicago/Dallas, Los Angeles and Toronto -- and distributed across the United States and Canada.
