It could have been another street in India. On August 20, 2005, the streets of New York were swept by the tricolour. You could breathe in the spirit of patriotism.

Nearly 100,000 Indian Americans descended on the city to celebrate India's 58th Independence Day and take part in the famous India Day Parade. They moved in august company -- celebrities, politicians and some of the city's most famous citizens. The three-day event kicked off at the State Theater in New Brunswick.

The parade was graced by actor Anil Kapoor, along with screen veterans Shashi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, and actor-turned-parliamentarian, Shatrughan Sinha.

Greeting all present, Anil Kapoor led the crowd into a few rousing rounds of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai!'.
