Canada were dismissed for the lowest total in one-day international history on Wednesday, crashing to 36 all out in their Group B match against Sri Lanka in Paarl.
Sri Lanka hit up the required runs in 4.4 overs, losing one wicket in the process.
Left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas, with three wickets, and new-ball partner Prabath Nissanka, with four, made the most of swinging conditions and some poor batting technique as Canada were bowled out in 18.4 overs.
The North Americans were dismissed for a lower total than the previous mark, Zimbabwe's 38 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2001.
Not one Canada batsman reached double figures, their top-scorers being opener Desmond Chumney and captain Joseph Harris, who both made nine.
The lone Sri Lanka wicket to fall was that of Sanath Jayasuriya, who was leg before to S Thuraisingam for 9.
Jayasuriya's opening partner Marvan Atapatu and Kumara Sangakkara were unbeaten on 24 and four respectively.
