Should India experiment so much before the World Cup?

Your Views

Name: Pratik
Message: with Kaif.....a pure dependable batsman ...why shud Agarkar......be tried as an all-rounder????

Name: kunal
Message: i think they shud before they reach that place where tey dont know what to do , they have a winning combination now , they shud just play

Name: nitin . nambiar
Message: well theres no harm in experimenting and now is the right time for that. but there are not too many slots to really experiment for. the third slot is the only slot thats vacant and needs to be sorted out. laxman and mongia ideally will not fit in that slot because they do not bowl. so the team could try yadfav, bangar and agarkar.

Name: Gavin Allen
Message: There was no need to experiment as all we needed was to have 1 or 2 good bowlers. We don't need a pinch hitter. We don't need a allrounder as Sehwag has done really well in the bowling department. Also Sachin, Kaif, Youraj and Ganguly can bowl too. i would say" India is trying to repair something when no serious damge exists !!" Just lookout for a good economical bowler and be consistent in selecting him. Ganguly says they are looking for a bowling allrounder and gives J P Yadav just onw match !!! Wishing that saner sense will prevail.

Name: Rajeev Kumar
Message: Dravid is not the right man for wicket keeping. It is time the wicketkeeper role is given to Patel. But Dravid as a batsman will be a key player for us in South Africa. I believe that we should not be rigid with the batting order. Agarkar should be tried at no. 3 depending on the situation & behaviour of the pitch. Agarkar has the potential to be a good allrounder but he should be consistnent in his bowling and he should try too many things. I also believe that Yuvraj & Kaif should get more number of overs.

Name: Selvan ,Toronto
Message: This is right time to experiment for experimenting. It is evindent that Dravid as keeper and Agarker as batsman are doing well. So,it is better to do experiments with lot of bowlers, particularly with fast bowlers.

Name: feroze khan
Message: the experimenting is enough for India till now.and Dravid is the right keeper for India as for keeping he doesn't miss cathes that much and gives india a batting support and Kaif is a must for us in the times of need. and the rest is the old squad . of [cap]Ganguly Sachin, harbhajan, ajit, zaheer, yuvraj, mongia|laxman andKumble

Name: Ramesh Arya
Message: atNow is the time to consolidate and not experiment. With India having done so well in Netscape trophy in England and at Mini world cup at Sri Lanka, now is the time to let each player know their role fully well rather than keep on changing batting and bowling orders.

Name: Praveen Tyagi
Message: It would be foolish to believe that world cup would be a cake walk for any of the teams. We as a nation tend to become very optimistic once India starts winning. A few things have to be kept in mind before talking about the world cup. India will have to play at least 3 seamers when they play in South Africa. Therefore Srinath and Agarkar become a near certainty, the other two being Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra. Rahul Dravid is a mainstream Batsman and his keeping has not been very good. You need to have a specialist wicketkeeper who can hold on to sharp chances. And moreover let us stop experimenting and let us realistically play the players who are planned to be part of world cup.

Name: vanam reddy
Message: there is nothing wrong in experimenting with batting slots and bowlers as v have got enough matches to play before the start of the world cup. as such now v r playing with westindies v can experiment with them and decide whom to play where and fix the slots for the coming tours and continue them to the world cup.

Name: Ch.Anand Gupta
Message: India should stop experimenting from now as the schedule for the world cup has already prepared as there is a short of time more practice to the players must be given to bring the cup to india.Rahul Dravid is doing good in wicket keeping and should be given more practice still. From the last 3 matches Agarkar has improved a lot in batting with a ton in test match and 95 runs in ODI with west indies but he is not able to control the flow of runs and giving break through wickets from last few matches and he should concentrate more on his bowling.finally in this stage India should stop experimenting with new palyers.

Name: Santanu Chatterjee
Your views:Yes,India should experiment . Dravid is the right man to fill Wicketkeeper cum Batsman slot . But India should do all permutations and Combinations to have a genuine all rounder .

Name: Apache
Message: It's right to exp b4 world cup so u knw the best 11 player who can win the all matches and bring the cup to India.... This is my INDIA XI sHEWAG, Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuraj, Kaif, Agarkar, Harbhajan, Khan, Srinath and Kumble/Nehra

Name: Hardik
Message: I think so India should experiment with its allrounder slot among the few selected players. They should stick to the same game plan which has got them sucess in recent months.

Name: SAI
Message: For the 5th bowler. yes... Reetinder Sodhi, Bangar should be tried.

Name: jitesh
Message: definately we should experiment b4 world cup starts. i feel that we should play only 1 spinner & play either bangar or jp yadav. they will be very handy in south africa

Name: naimesh
Message: With the present team the likelihood of winning the world cup is slightly lower than with a TEAM that has been tested in crunch situations. Certainly, the experimentation should go ahead with the knowledge of knowing that the World Cup is not too far away. Experimentation of this kind can sometimes throw a team off balance and so I think they only have this current series in which to try different players in various situations. Thanks!

Name: kv
Message: yes we are experimenting without any logic. recent experiments showerd Yuvraj and Kaif get a over or two in the middle. This way we've no chance in w.cup

Name: Nilesh Bahalkar
Message: India is on mission and like to lift the world cup 2003 in south africa. Only the thing they should keep one perfect 100% team for all matches .Batting order should be like this V Shewag Sachin Tendulakr Rahul Dravid V.V.Laxman / Dinesh Mongia Sourav Ganguly Yuvraj Singh M.Kaif Ajit Agarkar Harbhajan Singh / Kumble Zaheer Khan / Srinath Ashish Nehra No need of taking any risk in changing batting order or else we are watching how sorav is doing such silly mistake in current IOD'S

Name: Chandrasekhar
Message: India has got a very good batting line up and without Tendulkar they are batting consistently and without fear. But the only problem Indians ever had and still has is in the bowling department. India should have atleast 3 genuine pace bowlers, one medium pace bowler and one spinner to be successful in the next year world cup

Name: Mandar B. Kulkarni
Message: I think India is doing right in experimenting with the team. Dravid should keep wickets. Agarkar is the All-rounder we have been looking for. He should bat at number 3 although that position should be a flexible one like for example instead of Agarkar, depending upon the situation Dravid or Sachin can go to that batting position. Rest all is perfect excpet we need to play maximum of medium pacers i.e all of Srinath, Zaheer, Nehra & Agarkar with Bhajji or Kumble depending upon the opposition.

Name: Mohamed Sabir
Message: Its very right approach by the board to make dravid as wicket keeper and to bring Agarkar at one down The both the move will stregnthen the batting

Name: Vinod D'Souza
Message: Experiment before worldcup....I think it has its own pros and cons...I belive that the present Indian Team is the almost perfect Team for the worldcup. If the selectors and captain is looking for a extra allrounder slot I feel that Robin Singh should be in.Coz seeing the past, its almost impossible to get a matchwinner player to get before the worldcup. What I feel could be the Indian world Cup team as like this below.: Saurav Ganguly(C),Rahul Dravid(VC and WK),Sachin Tendulkar,Zaheer Khan,Virendar Sehwag,Yuvraj Singh,Mohammed Kaif,Ashish Nehra,Ajit Agarkar,VVS Laxman,Harbajan Singh,Anil Kumble,Robin Singh,Javagal Srinath,Sanjay Bangar,Jacob Martin My be the bolwers should be given batting practice in the real matches,so experiments like changing the batting order of bowlers and promoting them a good idea...but please NO to new players.....

Name: sumesh raghavan
Message: i should say after long years we have got the right banace for that we have to do some saccrifices i should say rahul should keep wickets and so is agarkar shou;d be at no 3 accroding to the circumstances

Name: Nishant Joshi
Message: Yes, Dravid the right man for the wicketkeeper's slot And Agarkar is the all-rounder for India

Name: tad
Message: dravid is right, agarkar not. try sodhi

Name: anish pathak
Your views:anishpathak@rediffmail.com dt.10 nov dear friends i will be a regular member to this message board now what a pity we lost yesterdayto wind in 2nd odi but i still think we can win the world cup lets start what india needs 1. stop paying ear to ppl like ravi shastri he himself in his life was never a aggressive batsmen exception to few glorious days in his career he always came forward and just tapped the ball he clearly seems to be a big fan of vvs laxman whom i think should not be included on any cost int he world cup squad he is truly no talent to be included whatever the coz be another thing captain ganguly was wrong at in last game was that he is experimenting to much when we have ppl like md . kaif yuvraj and rahul dravid in eak form and winning matches fro india whats the need of sending ajit and bhajji up who chances to suceed are very less i think we should rather test kaif or yuvraj one down here and in newzealands series another point is tendulkar is wasted at no 4 we should send him at top coz he is good striker of the ball and a good runner between sticks whereas ganguly is poor at rotating strike which may hamper and pressurize sehwag also ganguly can hit soft ball a lot better and he wll also face a second line attack which he can handle better if we can get back jadeja we should really coz he will fill in the place of seventh batsmen well this not coz i like the guy but he is a utility amn can bowl field and bat in end overs well he has the ability to turn match and is experienced in the conditions of s.africa other thing is we need to have game plan our bopwlers surely didnt know till date how to get a windies batsmen out or what are there short comings i m sure of it if u doubt ask them now they wont say a word we need a game plan each bowler should have his plan ready for each batsmen lower order should learn some good tricky shorts like marrilier especially kumble who knows to bat but is not yet done wel in onedays and looks to play in front just imagine if he can play the same ball behind the wicket it will be more usefull srinath is good hitter but is complecent agarkar well u can keep him in side i m not too sure he will suceed nehra and zaheer ahve to be more hardworking as they can be really force togather for world cup and future too keep tring with yadav and bangar if possible send them to s.africa to have some first class experience before hand thats all for now keep watching

Name: Banoori Sridhar Reddy
Message: I guess India has a great chance of winning the world cup-2003 with terrific Batting line up so they need not experiment much.they should stick with Dravid as keeper and Agarkar as Allrounder, gove them confidence that they can excel in their positions.Well what should be doing is select a team for world cup and give them enough chances so that they can gain confidence and do well in all the departments especially bowling and fielding.

Name: shamirrehman
Message: India should continue with Ajit as one-drop and rahul as wicket keeper

Name: amit sachdeva
Message: Dravid is no doubt the right man, he should be remodelled into the role of wicket keeper in perspective to World Cup. Indians have a very strong batting line and should not experiment with it, though they are lacking in bowling order and should try to give chances to medium pacers keeping in mind that SA pitches favor pacers.

Name: Aravind chandramouli
Message: I believe India is doing the right thing by experimenting. Experimenting with Dravid as Keeper allowed them to play Kaif and it has paid. So there is no harm in trying Agarkar at No.3. He may succeed in India but in South Africa is a different Story altogether !

Name: Shah
Message: India still does not have a balanced team, such as the ones that won the World Cup and Benson & Hedges in Australia. They must find at least two more strike bowlers (besides Zaheer Khan) and a wicketkeeper if they have any chance of winning the World Cup in South Africa. Agarkar is probably not the answer. India needs a bowling all-rounder who can bat decently. Agarkar is the opposite. His bowling can at times hurt the team rather than helping. The recent experiment of sending him and Harbhajan is ridiculous. It is an insult to the batting skills of Yuvraj Singh, Kaif, and Dravid. They must experiment to find quality fast bowlers and a wicketkeeper.

Name: Shesh
Message: Rahul Dravid has given his mettle in his career and also has Ajit Agarkar, but we consider the success rate, it is better if we have Rahul Dravid as the Batsman-Wicket Keeper and leave the good bowling job that Ajit is doing so far. Also, India needs a great bowler to bowl out the opponents even before they wink their eyes. All the best for the world cup, hopefully we will be able to have some glimpses over the internet.

Name: Ganesh.
Message: Not sure what one would call experiments....experiment is something one plans well and will go thru with it till they find a result one way or the other....but in the case of Indian team and management....it is like buying a lottrey ticket... they keep buying differnt ticket thinking one will win them the jackpot... its not fair to the players... Kaif is not being given the oppertunity to bat cause he is pushed one slot down everytime someone has to be accomidated...which is totally unfair. Yeah one must experiment....but it shouldnt be like this...yeah u wanna try Yadhav...ok...then send him in such that he can get a chance to bat....not in the last five overs and ask him to pinch hit in his first match...is that his role?.. nope...so whats the point? anyways....hope people get some sense at soem point...for a long time the Indian team is like a boat with too many sails...and sometimes no sails and nothing to give it proper direction!

Name: sam
Message: Angrakar at #3 no way, may be in the slog overs

Name: Krishnan
Message: no they are not experimenting too much. they should try all possible combinations.

Name: Ananthanarayanan Subramanian
Your views:It is ok if Rahul Dravid keeps. But Parthiv Patel should go to SA with the squad just in case. And regarding Kaif's elevation up the order (as advocated in the article titled "Quick Comment..."), it would be sheer foolishness because we do have 3 specialist batsmen following the openers. Actually promoting him above Yuvraj would make sense, but other than that the order should be the same as it is with Kaif doing what he does best - conjuring runs up in the most improbable of positions. Agarkar is just not the answer to India's search for all rounders. But if we have 5 batsmen (including the openers) and 2 youngsters willing to die for the team in Kaif and Yuvraj, i just dont see the logic behid the "search". We have the team now.. lets not juggle them around. Let them settle down...

Name: yasho
Message: India shall experiment. Our bowling attack is all time low. Kumble and Haribhajan are not dependable. If everything goes their way they do good or they fall on their face. As in Calcutta, Jamshedpur and Nagpur. Srinath is not up to the mark any more. We shall look for more bowlers and batsman. Stop this nonsense for all rounder search. We have enough of stock bowlers. What we need are some specialists.

Name: gautam
Message: india have still a long way to go before they find a rght combination.the indian team today looks very similar to the srilankan team that won the 96 world cup,but with a major difference..the srilankan team had four bowlers(just like we have) who performed consistently throughout the world cup but india have yet to find one who can support zaheer who looks like the only genuine bowler in the side. Also viru needs to learn to play the waiting game especially when playing someone of the level of a mcgrath or a wasim, coz today bowlers world over believe that to get viru out u just need to bowl a tight over.the batting order needs to flexible according to the situation, there is no point in holding a woderful batsmen like kaif for the last couple of overs.
