Should India experiment so much before the World Cup?

Your Views

Name: Vijay Veer Singh
Message: Its right to say that India is one of favourites of winning the cup, we are quite sure that with such a strong batting lineup, score of 250 is very easy to get, but the concern is for the bowling department, we still lack way far, there is no point in awarding Agarkar to be an all rounder, as he does not have enough confident, he even doesnt know how to bowl a yorker, at world cup u require people full of confidence and courage, because one bad man can kill ur hopes of winning the cup, i think srinath with Zaheer Khan are best to open bowling as Srinath has started batting well, and Bhaji and Kumble should bowl a consistent length, even Parthik Patel should be considered for the cup as second wicket keeper, he is an assesst for the team. Bus ek cup aur.

Name: Prashanth R
Message: Well Indians are doing a good job in the recent past and I don't see any reasons why they should figure at the top of the World Cup Chart. But I reckon there are few important areas where they need to improve immediately. I would be happy to see Rahul Dravid keeping wickets in the world cup. After all I think he need not keep wickets against Netherlands and Namibia. So he has to keep wickets for big matches and he could bat at 5 or 6 if we choose fielding first and in the 3rd position if we bat first. I don't think Agarkar can be a good all-rounder, especially on south african tracks. We need to have a genuine medium pacer who can bat for 30-50 runs. Coz' we just can't rely on Srinath and Zaheer always. On their bad day one should be there to balance the team. I don't think we are experimenting too much, too soon. We have around 13-14 one day matches before we play our first world cup game. We can afford to experiment in another 5 to 6 matches see that if it works and the rest we have to consider very seriously and play as if we are playing in world cup, which I think gives really good practice. Finally the areas I was talking about are 1. Fitness (Power) 2. One Genuine medium pacer who can bat a bit 3. Fielding. Really we do not have depth in our bowling attack and it is taking away matches from us. OUR MEDIUM PACERS HAVE TO BE DECEPTIVE AND AGGRESSIVE. WE LACK AGGRESSION, WE HAVE TO MAKE BATSMEN FEAR AND EVEN KUMBLE SEEMS TO BE NOT HUNGRY FOR WICKETS. I think if we could concentrate on these areas and improve THE WORLD CUP WILL BE OURS THIS TIME. I wish Good Luck for the Indians and Enjoy all the matches.

Message: Yes, India should go for experiment because it is the high time to do something better by testing yourself.

Name: Sushant Kumar
Message: Experimenting makes us reveal that they are consistent but not confident of winning the world cup. Hope they will become mentally strong.

Name: anand
Message: it doesn't augur well as sometimes dravid is a failure as wicketkeeper due to whatever reasons. but to pick a genuine allrounder(should be a good medium-pacer who won't give much runs)is a good move. agarkar is either batting well or bowling well, that is not really a right choice.we should give chance to youngster like J P YADAV. thank u

Name: prabir sengupta
Message: In my opinion present team lacks a bowler of Kapil's calibre.Jaheer is doing fine but he needs support at other end. Agarkar and Asish are no match for him. Rahul is ok as wicket keeper and specialist is not required. With a good bowler to partner Jaheer India can be champ again.

Name: Bitu Khangura
Message: dravid ok as a wicket keeper and agarkar is perfect as a bowler and as a pinch hitter

Name: ranganathan P.S.
Message: ya, it's lit bit late too say about indian cricket team tactics especially world cup just 90 days to go. As much as possible they have to win the matches with comprehensive otherwise it difficult to hold new experiments like ajit agarkar to bat at no.3 slot or rahul dravid retain himself in the team as a genuine wicket keeper batsman. However, sometime these experiment work but in world cup you have to provide 120% effort in each department or else you loose too many money and ranking.

Name: Manish
Message: I think john wright and saurav ganguly are doing the wright thing.. This is the right time to experiment and sort out minor issues in the team composition.. I think the only department left for improvisation is the bowling section.. India badly needs 2-3 seam bowlers.. with nehra, agarkar, kumble and bhajji all getting clobbered to all corners of the ground by the windies batsment.. We concentrated on the teams batting for too long and somehow ignored the bowling dept. I guess zaheer and sachins injuries come as a blessing in disguise at the right time.. As far as bowling is concerned.. we'll be needing seam bowlers, and saurav can chance his arm a bit, since he himself is a good bowler..

Name: Ratnesh Mootha
Message: Sometimes Ganguly loses it and then tries to defend his actions. It is ridiculos to send in Ajit Agarkar and Harbhajan over the likes of Dravid, Khaif and Yovraj. Why experiment 89 before the world cup. Stick to the winning combination

Name: VINTHA
Message: yes ... india should not do experiments at this stage. for one days Lakshman is not the correct person, even though he played well in 2nd one day at Nagapur. But Agarkar will give his level best as a bowler as well as batsmen. We don't have any other option for wicket keeper other than Dravid. Main thing is India has to look at his bowling line up thoroughly ... obviously champions are Indians ...!!!

Name: Renjit Gopalakrishnan
Message: In the absence of key players like Zaheer Khan and Sachin, now India is facing some loopholes in its so called winning combination. So who knows what will happen in the world cup. If any injuries happens during the worldcup time, India should always have a layback option. So experiments are worth than the current series. Too many wins for a team just before the world cup, as proved in the past may be too much of over confidence for any team. Low profiles took the cup often! Of course wicket-keeping.

Name: Hari Ram Sharma
Message: As the countdown to world has begun the experiments can't be termed to be to soon. To much experiment will make India to achieve the world cup.

Name: Sayan
Message: I dont think india should experiment too much..ther are 2 slots to be tried out..no3 slot and a bowler..i think they can play Ritender singh sodhi, JP yadav, bangr at no3..they can even try out Parthiv at 3....in south africa plating 2 spinners might become a luxary...hence india should look at a bowling combination of 3 medium pacers and one spinner..i dont think agarkar will be very succesful in SA...the way laxman is playing, india might play him at 4 and ask tendulkar to come at 3...incase they dont want to include laxman, then they can play either Sodhi, bangar or YP yadav..

Name: Abby
Message: I think its high time we stop the experiments and work on gettin all the players into shape and having high fitness levels.

Name: Vishaal Chawla
Message: Ya expermentatoin is better than poor results

Name: Sundaram
Message: India is definitely a hot favourite for this world cup. Yes, Dravid is a right choice to do wicket keeping. ALL THE BEST TO SOURAV AND HIS TEAM.

Name: Chandra Mohan
Message: It may be a right decision to field Dravid as the wicket keeper in the one-day situation. For the timebeing Ajit Agarkar looks the allrounder in relative terms but he is too inconsistent with his batting performances

Name: Srinivasan.V.S
Message: It is a pity that as in politics and by politics cricket also is unable to find a good wicket keeper who can keep well to glory and score useful runs and stand by team. Rahul Dravid should not keep wickets even he finds his place is not sure as a batsman. He can become captain as per cricket politics and sure of his birth. The team management thinking is highly disgraceful. Thhose responsible for this semi cricket thinking first should quit the game and even their watching cricket is shame to the game of cricket. When all the other teams select wicket keeper as keeper india is selecting wicket keeper as one who is behind the wicket.. Again we are finding Congress and cricket board in the same boat as congress does not find an indian to the leaders job as cricket for wicket keeper for onedayers. This selection reveals that except for one or two the rest are Tourist. The same goes with the agarkars and harbajans. They can never be allrounders An allrounder is one who performs all the three jobs all the time So my selection goes a follows to win the world cup. Sachin,Shewag, (Ganguly or Mongia ), (Dravid or Kaif), Yuvaraj, (Sanjay Banger or Yadhav)Parthiv Patel, Two from (Srinath,Zaheer, Nehra,) Two from ( Three Spinners in form and suitable for SA ) srinivasan

Name: sanjay jagtap
Message: Yes, so far as the players are concerned .New plaers like Parthiv Patel should be given more chances,But sending Agarkar and Harbhajan above Kaif in batting order is reduculous.Kaif should have been sent at No.3 in the first 2 ODIs.

Name: Khwaja M.N.
Message: India should avoid exprimenting, include Zaheer bring Kaif 5th down

Name: Vicky
Message: Stop experimenting. We have a good 1 day team. Just start analysing the opposition teams weakness and finetune your skills. We have more match winners than any team in the world. We only need time to gel with each other.

Name: Mahesh (nvs-guj)
Message: no i think india should choose a regular keeper for the worldcup, only one mistake of rahul dravid as a keeper can be the reason of loosing worldcup for india.

Name: renju c abraham
Message: yes INDIA SHOULD EXPIREMENT BEFORE WORLD CUP 2003. PLAYERS LIKE AGARKAR,SRINATH ,HARBAJAN SHOULD BE TESTED TO VIEW A BEST RESULT IN WORLD CUP.

Name: K.SREEDHAR
Message: NO,.. ITS NOT RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT OF EXPERIMENTING. WITH THIS PRESENT TEAM WE DISCOVERED A WINNING FORMULA AND HABIT OF CONSISTENCY IN WINNING AT ANY CHAMPIONSHIP AND CONTEST.AT THIS LEVEL INDIA CAN CHALLENGE ANY TEAM,..AND WIN THE WORLDCUP 2003,..ALL THE BEST,..

Name: Prasanna B.M
Message: India right now has the right blend of team for the forth coming world cup. No need for any experimentation of any sorts in the coming few one day matches. More so after having played so well overseas in the recent past. One thing the coach has to take care is the batting of the lower order batsmen. They should contribute when situation demands with bat and add the vital runs that is so decisive in deciding close encounters. Opening slot is just good with right & left combination of Sehwag & Ganguly. Lakshman should be kept out of the onedayers. He seems fish out of water when it comes to one dayers. Dravid's keeping is good but it will be a testing time in the world cup. But its worth a gambling to take.

Name: Sathya
Message: Yes and get the combinatin right before the end of WI Tour of India

Name: Prasanna
Message: When u r not going well u can afford experimentation, but Indians have been doing well in the ODI's for that past year and wghy should do they indulge in experimentation,I think this experimentation cost the Indians the 2nd ODI against the Windies.Indians are a far better side than the Windies and for them to lose conssitently doen not do any godd for their world cup preparations

Name: Santosh
Message: It is correct that India has put in some great performances in recent times, but there are too many weeknesses still in this team for it not to experiment. However, we seem to have got it completely wrong based on what was seen on the first two matches of the West Indies series. Our strength as everyone and their mom's know lie in our batting. We are sure to play at least six batsmen, all world class and it makes no sense to send pinch hitters in this lineup. A Yuvraj or a Kaif can contribute more and faster than Agarkar or Harbhajan if they are given time to settle. We are trying to fix the wrong problem. As always, it is the bowling which will lose more matches for India and need reinforcng. We have only one depedable bowler in Zaheer. Harbhajan also walks into the team as the second bowler who can turn the match in 2/3 overs. That still leaves us with 3 more places to fill, counting six batsmen. This is where the experimentation should come in. Out of this, 2 will have to be bowlers for sure. Srinath, Nehra, Agarkar and Kumble each are good on some days, but are inconsistent enough to lose matches by themselves on other days. So it will be worh to experiment on couple of other bowlers too. The third available slot can either be filled with a batsman like it was in England and Srilanka. But with India's relative strengths it will be better to go for Parthiv, the genuine keeper, since we can not afford to let go of any chances or go for an medium pace all rounder. Agarkar after his show in the first match looks good. But, JP Yadav surely deserves a couple more chances. And it seems that the once promising LR Shukla and RS Sodhi are no longer in the Radar screen.

Name: Sudhakar Reddy
Message: Yap! Dravid should continue as WK, as he is doing good and mistake can happen even with the specalist keeper too. with dravid as keeper the batting line up is exacllent. Coming to the experiment, it is good and not too soon as this helps to plan before hand and options will be available in need. The Indian thinkthank should workout with the bowlers. this is the only weak section which may stand in between the Indian team winning the Cup.As time is nearing and also we have no other gunieune allrounder, Agarkar should be given regular chances to improve and confidence.

Name: Apar Bansal
Message: i feel that the indian team needs to improve with the current side and work on being more consisten. look upon the faults of the windies tour to india n improve.

Name: Santosh Mullapalli
Message: It is such a pity that we as Public and Cricket fans have to see this, Is Ajit Agarkar having the support of politicians or some Underworld that the Indian Board keep persisiting with him and to add to that he has been promoted to number 3, very soon we will see Yuvraj & Kaif being dropped as all they get is 2 to 3 overs to play and it is not possible to score heavily, hence they will be dropped, this will be definetely true, we hav ethe best batting side in the world and one can understand if they make any experiment on the bowling side, but Ajit Agarkar, boy what a pity. Secondly Laxman & Dravid are class of their own and they are indispenble to this Indian Team, the way these two have batted in the last couple of One days shows the class they possess. For God Sake get rid of this Agarkar and play without Politics.Promote Yuvraj & Kaif to top order Hoping for the best

Name: Venkat
Message: India should definitely experiment, but not for finding a non-existent All-Rounder but a couple of good decent Fast-Medium bowlers. Present team has world beating 7 batsmen and all we need is a couple of decent fast-medium bowlers, it doesn't matter if they don't know how to hold the bat. Agarkar should not be playing in the team for the simple reason that he is not a containing bowler. Never will there be a situation in the coming world cup where in India will go 7 down and an alrounder will come and win for India. But definitely there are going to be cases, when India may have to defend 200 odd totals. Of all experiments should'nt we be experimenting by playing only one spinner, after all next world cup is in South Africa and not in Sub-continent.

Name: naveen
Message: i think indian caption and coach are trying to find master batsman, by doing so they are forgetting to give chance to key players like Kaif, yuvraj. It is only 90 days to world cup, come on guys dont experiement NOW...otherwise we are going to loose badly in World cup..

Name: rajeev
Message: yes we should, but after ensuring that we win the series. losing to WI at home is not on. need to rethink the effectiveness of playing nehra and the presence of 2 toothless spinners in the playing eleven.sehwag as the 2nd spinner is more effective and we could also looking at playing the 2nd allrounder in either Bangar or maybe even sodhi in the world cup.

Name: Prem
Message: If 6 runs/over is not enough to defend for the current crop of bowlers (as is being proved by West Indies), where and how the team management will identify the bowlers who can win matches for India? Why is Agarkar still playing? and of all experiments he is finding place in this INDIAN MIDDLE ORDER??? I think there is absolutely no need to experiment with this proven batting order of India. And all experiments are pending on the bowlers side.

Name: patel
Message: Yeah is right to experiment right now. So we can find good allrounder and another bowler also can get batting practice.

Name: Sen
Message: Too much of experiments in the proven middle order batting line up and NO experiments at all with the regular bowlers, who fail to defend even a runrate of 6 per over. Agarkar is batting little better after his century in England, but all india needs is a good Fast bowler, which unfortunately Agarkar is not.So this experiment is waste of time (and the one dayers that we lose because of this experiment). Dravid might get through in South African conditions, where balls might come straight and fast and with enough bounce for him to adjust and catch.
