Devastating fire in Richmond Hill Gurdwara

George Joseph in New York

The Richmond Hill Gurdwara in Queens, New York, was almost destroyed in a devastating fire that began on Friday morning.

One person was seriously injured, while four others, including two firefighters, received minor injuries.

The fire, which lasted for almost four hours, took thirty-three units and 130 firefighters to bring it under control, fire department spokesman James Spollen said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.

Speaking to rediff.com, Harpreet Singh Toor, chairman of the Gurudwara said that he had no idea how the fire started.

"We all will shift our prayers to some other Gurudwara as the whole building is gutted," he added.
