Taliban's former foreign minister surrenders

The foreign minister of the now-deposed Taliban regime voluntarily surrendered to United States authorities in Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, a Pentagon spokesman said.

Details of the surrender are awaited.

Television reports on Saturday said that US authorities were questioning Mullah Abdul Wakil Muttawakil.

Muttawakil was one of the closest aides of Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.
