Bush sanctions $50 million to Pakistan

The United States on Friday sanctioned $50 million to Pakistan under the Foreign Assistance Act.

US President George W Bush said, "The assistance is in the security interests of the United States."

It is first such economic help to Pakistan in several years.

The moves reflects Islamabad's growing strategic importance in view of a possible US attack on Afghanistan to nab Osama bin Laden, suspected to be the mastermind behind the September 11 terror attacks.
