Photos of suspected hijackers released

United States Attorney General John Ashcroft on Thursday released photographs of 19 suspected hijackers.

While releasing the photographs Ashcroft hoped that some Americans might recognise some of the hijackers, as there were still some questions about the true identities of some of the men.

Director of Federal Bureau of Investigation Fred Mueller, who was with Ashcroft, said his agency is trying to determine the suspects' real identity, and whether they had changed their names to enter US.

Mueller said there was evidence that one or more of the hijackers had contacts with Al-Qaida.

He declined to be more specific.
