Pak not in a position to put conditions: Advani

Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Monday said Pakistan was not in a position to set conditions before the United States to help it hunt down Osama bin Laden, prime suspect behind the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

Addressing a public meeting at Sabarmati assembly constituency in Ahmedabad where by-election is scheduled on September 20, Advani asked, "Is Pakistan in a position to place conditions before the United States?"

He said Pakistan had deliberately spread this information to mislead its people for fear of a backlash for helping the US in its war against terrorism.

Advani said he had been informed by the US ambassador on more than one occasion that Pakistan had not set any conditions for helping his country to nab bin Laden.

As far as Pakistan's reported demand that India should not be co-opted into any plan to fight terrorism, he said US President Bush had on Sunday in a telephonic talk with Prime Minister Vajpayee told him that he expected support of all countries, including India's, in the war against terrorism.
