Seventy-seven Indians being treated in hospitals

Seventy-seven Indians were being treated in various hospitals of New York for injuries received in the terrorist strikes at the World Trade Centre last Tuesday, according to the latest figures available with the Indian consulate.

As the rescue operations continued to pull out survivors and bodies from the debris of the sky-scraper, families of 250 Indians believed to be missing are holding out hope to find their loved ones alive.

Around 5,000 people are said to be missing after air-borne terrorists smashed the twin-towers of the WTC.

Officials say the chances of survival of the missing are becoming slim with time and, on Friday, not a single victim was found alive.

Dr Mukand Modi of the Overseas Friends of BJP said the party was setting up a help line to assist those in need.

The Indian National Overseas Congress is also planning its own helpline.
