Eight CIA experts arrive in Dostum's camp

Amid reports of a US ground offensive in Afghanistan, eight Central Intelligence Agency experts have arrived in Uzbek warlord Abdul Rasheed Dostum's camp, Russian RTR TV reported on Friday.

CIA experts were brought to Dostum's camp at Dara-e-Sufa near key northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif by a US helicopter from neighbouring Uzbekistan, the report said.

RTR's correspondent at Khoja Bahautdin base of Northern Alliance also confirmed that CIA experts had arrived for consultations with the Afghan opposition forces and General Dostum was interacting with them.

Meanwhile, the United States said it wants to avoid 'mistakes' made in Afghanistan 12 years ago, when little attention was paid to the country after the withdrawal of Soviet forces, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice said.

"There is a very strong commitment, not just on the part of the United States but on the part of many countries participating in this coalition, and I believe also the UN, that we make certain ... that we don't make the mistake that we made 12 years ago," Rice said on ABC television.
