British Prime Minister Tony Blair would be arriving in New Delhi on Friday evening to discuss the issue of tackling international terrorism, including cross-border militancy, with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Blair's surprise visit is part of his meetings with leaders such as Pakistan President General Pervez Musharaf on the fight against terrorism.
He is expected to leave India by Saturday morning.
He is expected to arrive in Pakistan on Friday morning for a four-hour 'working visit' to hold consultations with General Musharraf.
"Later today, he is expected in New Delhi," a senior external affairs ministry official said.
Britain understands India's concerns 'better than most European nations and US', an MEA official said.
In his telephonic conversation with Vajpayee on October 3, he had discussed the issue, and agreed with most points raised by Vajpayee.
Addressing a special session of the British Parliament, Blair had condemned the attack on J&K secretariat early this week.
Blair, Indian officials believe, would be trying to persuade Musharraf the need to rein in fundamentalist elements within Pakistan so that in the long run they do not pose a threat to Pakistan itself.
Vajpayee, officials speculate, might tell the British premier about how Kashmiri terrorists are using Britain for mopping up funds and support for their jihad in the valley.
Indian security agencies have evidence of some British citizens participating in the jihad in the Valley.
India believes Blair would be a good messenger to convince the Americans about India's real concerns.
Blair is also expected to discuss the Afghan situation, and the American proposals to deal with Osama Bin Laden and Taleban.
