Mullah Omar urges Taleban to fight for land

Taleban chief Mullah Mohammed Omar had asked his forces not to negotiate with Pushtoon leaders and fight for every inch of land under their control, officials of the militia said.

The message reached all Taleban fighters in and around Kandahar on Thursday night, SADA reported.

Omar, who also aired the message through wireless, told the forces to fight for their rights and for what they believed in, Maulvi Najibullah, spokesman for the Taleban's foreign ministry, said.

"There is no need to negotiate with anybody. Be firm and believe that you will win if you continue to tread the divine path and remain ready to lay down your life for Islam," Najibullah quoted Omar as saying.

Najibullah, who was in charge of military operations between Kandahar and Spin Boldak, said all talks with Noorzai and Achakzai tribes of Pushtoons had come to a standstill.

The Taleban was ready to face the tribesmen if they came over for a fight in Spin Boldak, he said.

Elders of the two Pushtoon tribes had started talks with Najibullah and other Taleban officials to convince them to handover Spin Boldak peacefully. The talks failed with the tribal leaders warning the Taleban of an onslaught.
