Northern Alliance agrees for multinational security force

Head of the Northern Alliance delegation at the Afghan meet in Bonn on Thursday night indicated that his group would not oppose the deployment of an international peacekeeping force, once an interim government was set up

"Our official position is that once there is a transitional mechanism for Afghanistan, if that involves or necessitates the presence of an international peacekeeping force, then we will go with this, we will not oppose it," Yunus Qanooni was quoted as saying in an agency report.

Dwelling on the composition of the forces, he said the Afghan people would prefer the force to be composed of soldiers from Islamic nations.

He added the proposed international force could be posted at the Afghan borders so that the country's 'territorial integrity isn't violated'.

Qanooni said: "Northern Alliance will be proud to be the champions of peace for the Afghan people."
