He believes he's alive today because of Jesus Christ. He was working on the 81st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11 when the first plane struck.
Sujo John, 27, recounts how flaming chunks of concrete and glass fell from the ceiling, killing everyone in his group, but he invoked the name of Jesus Christ and escaped.
Another positive twist to his harrowing tale: his pregnant wife, Mini, who worked in an office on the 71st floor of the South Tower, survived too.
After he safely reached the lobby, John reportedly walked to the other tower to look for his wife. As he entered the lobby, his cell-phone rang and there on the other side was his wife searching for him.
As the luck would have it, her bus was late and as she reached the lobby of the South Tower, it had just been hit. So, like numerous others, she ran out of the building and was saved.
John, who migrated to New York from Calcutta only a couple of years back, has now become a preacher. He's being sought by churches across North America to address their congregations.
His sermon, based on his personal experience, lays emphasis on the power of God.
He's now in Winnipeg at the invitation of the Gateway Christian Community to address the congregation on Sunday. The church authorities have tripled the usual number of services this weekend in anticipation of big crowds.
John has already travelled to Kansas City, Iowa and all over New York and New Jersey.
Reports say John doesn't charge any money for these engagements, but churches have to pay for his travel expenses.
He's in Winnipeg to pay back to the community that produced Christian missionary, Mark Buntain, who was born and raised in Winnipeg. John says Buntain brought faith to him when he was a young student in Calcutta.
"He would pick up children who were thrown away. I was touched, my first experience with God was from his mission," John is quoted in the National Post as saying.
"There is fear in the hearts and minds of men all across America. I have a message of hope, " he says.
