Karzai supports international security force

Afghanistan's new leader, Hamid Karzai, on Tuesday night said he would welcome an international security force in his country.

Karzai, in Rome on his first trip abroad after being named to head an interim Afghan administration, also said he would make every effort to end terrorism in Afghanistan.

As for Osama bin Laden, he said he could expect no leniency.

"I want to have him arrested," he said.

"Terrorism has made our people suffer," he said. "I am determined to get rid of them (terrorists) not only in Afghanistan but also in the rest of the world."

Karzai made the comments after meeting with former Afghan king Mohammed Zahir Shah who lives in exile in Rome.

Karzai said the ousted Taliban regime would have no place in Afghanistan's future administration.

He said he knew nothing about the Taliban leader Mullah Muhammed Omar's whereabouts. "Inshallah (God willing) Afghanistan has been saved from the dangers of Mullah Omar and his terrorist friends."
