Five US soldiers killed in suicide attack: Taleban

Pakistani newspaper Baluchistan Times quoting the Taleban commander for frontier affairs, Maulvi Aminullah, said five United States special forces soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by the militia at Dolangi airstrip, 20 km from Kandahar, on Friday night.

The US special forces had reportedly secured the Dolangi airstrip last weekend, and hundred of marines are supposed to have flown in there.

The newspaper quoted Aminullah as saying that 'eight Taleban fighters embraced martyrdom in the attack'.

He also denied that US special forces had entered Kandahar city, the report said.

Meanwhile, former Taleban ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef said the Taleban would prefer to die rather than surrender Kandahar.

He said his militia would resist the 'forces of infidels' to their last breath.

"We have decided to defend Kandahar to our last. We will not hand over Kandahar to anyone," Zaeef was quoted as saying by the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press.
