McCartney buys jewellery from Jaipur for fiancee

Soni Sinha in Jaipur

Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney made a surprise dash to Jaipur to buy jewellery, including a sapphire-and-diamond ring and a bracelet, for his fiancée.

McCartney got engaged to Heather Mills on July 26.

The couple will be back in the Rajasthan capital in January, after their wedding, to collect a few trinkets for the bride, a manager of Bhandari Jewellers, from whom he bought the ring, said.

"McCartney will surprise Mills on the flight back home with a bracelet of sapphires laced with diamond, and a pink salwar kameez," said the manager of Siddharth Travels, which made their travel arrangements.

The couple had sneaked into the city on a two-day visit and stayed at the Oberoi Raj Vilas hotel.

Another ex-Beatle, George Harrison, had come to the city two years ago accompanied by sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, his mentor.
