AAHOA women's conference on July 26Nitish S Rele About 200 women are expected to attend the fourth annual women's conference sponsored by Asian American Hotel Owners Association on Wednesday, July 26 at the Nashville Convention Center. The previous conferences were held in San Francisco, Atlanta and Dallas. "The conference is designed to provide valuable professional education and networking for women hoteliers -- and to encourage more women to consider a career in hospitality," said Bakulesh 'Buggsi' Patel, chairman of AAHOA and CEO of Buggsi Hospitality Group in Portland, Oregon. AAHOA boasts of a membership of 7,300 and 2,500 (30 per cent) of them are women. Among the daylong activities will be speeches, seminars, trade exhibits and evening entertainment by Kamlesh Avasthi with Himi International and the Bombay Tunes Orchestra. Patel said that for a registration cost fee of $ 25, participants can enjoy all the events and bring them spouses along for dinner and entertainment. AAHOA has also made arrangements for discount rates at three hotels in the Nashville area. "We hope to attract a strong turnout," said Patel, adding "Business people are always looking for investments that offer big returns -- and that's certainly what women can achieve by being in Nashville." Founded in Atlanta in 1989, AAHOA's members own about 18,000 hotels, which have one million rooms and a market value of almost $ 40 billion. This represents about 65 per cent of the economy lodging properties in the US and nearly 40 per cent of all hotel properties.
