Edwin King to head SA inquiry

Live Africa has confirmed that the man who will lead South Africa's cricket corruption inquiry is Judge Edwin King. He retired last weekend as Judge President of the Cape.

A fellow-judge welcomed the appointment, pointing out that Judge King has had 15 years on the bench and is an expert in fact-finding.

King is also known to be a keen cricket enthusiast: he regularly watches cricket matches on a small television set in his chamber. His report is due within a month, and will be submitted to the next meeting of the International Cricket Conference in London.

The apppointment of a judge to head the inquiry is four weeks later than the SA cricket authorites first promised.

Yesterday, an emergency ICC meeting at Lord's announced strict penalties and its own commission of inquiry.
