The Bharatiya Janata Party will stake claim to form the government in Karnataka, BJP legislature party leader B S Yeddyurappa said before leaving for Raj Bhavan on Monday evening.
When questioned as to who were the independents that would extend support to the BJP, Yeddyurappa said that the names of S Tangadgi and G Shekhar had been finalised.
"Wait for some time or tomorrow. You will know who the other candidate is," he said.
He, however, maintained they had the required strength to form the government and that message would be placed before the Governor at Raj Bhavan.
The BJP has decided to meet the Governor without being invited formally to form the government.
Raj Bhavan sources told rediff.com that usually the Governor sends a formal invitation after he gets all the information from the Election Commission of India. However there is no bar in a party meeting the Governor and staking a claim to form the government, they also added.
Yeddyurappa said once the government is formed, the main mantra will be development.
"We had promised this during the elections and we will keep up our word. The entire nation is celebrating BJP's victory in Karnataka and it is an indicator that the NDA will do well in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls," he said.
