An army jawan on Monday allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Anantnag district.

Havaldar Suresh Chander, posted with First Rashtriya Rifles unit, shot himself inside a camp at High Ground in the district, official sources said.

The motive behind his taking the extreme step was not known immediately, the sources said.

Chander is the fifth security personnel who has committed suicide in the Valley in a fortnight.
