A 65-year old Bharatiya Janata Party activist on Saturday succumbed to injuries sustained in an overnight attack allegedly by Communist Party of India-Marxist workers near Thalassery in Kerala as the toll in the series of attacks involving the workers of the two parties in the last four days rose to seven.

K V Surendran suffered multiple stab injuries when a group attacked him after barging into his house at Thiruvangad on Friday night. He was rushed to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital where he died around 1 am, police said.

Surendran was attacked shortly after a peace meeting chaired by the District Collector here in which RSS-BJP and CPI-M leaders assured to prevent attacks against rival party activists.

Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who was in Delhi, is scheduled to visit the trouble-torn localities adjoining Thalassery town on Saturday.

Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Oommen Chandy has announced a day-long fast on Sunday to protest the attacks and also to awaken public conscience against political violence.
