The pistol of a junior Jammu and Kashmir minister accidentally went off inside the high security Jammu airport late on Monday afternoon, creating panic all around.

Minister of State for Rural Development Javed Mustaffa Mir was depositing his pistol with the security personnel during check-in at the airport, when the weapon accidentally went off.

Luckily, no one was wounded in the accident.

Mir, who is a senior People's Democratic Party leader, always carries a personal weapon for security.

The minister, however, was allowed by the authorities to board the Delhi flight.

"There were many passengers waiting for security check when the accident occurred," said a police officer.
