An Indian doctor, the alleged mastermind of an illegal transplant factory in New Delhi, is suspected to have fled to Canada, ahead of police raids that shut down the operation last week.

Amit Kumar, dubbed 'Dr Horror', had bought hundreds of organs from poor donors and supplied them to patients at a high price. He was reportedly running the operation partly from an unknown location in Canada, where his family is said to be living, the National Post reported on Tuesday.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson on Tuesday said that Canadian authorities currently have limited information about the Indian police investigation.

"We can, however, say that Interpol-Ottawa has been in communication with Interpol-New Delhi about this case," said RCMP Sergeant Sylvie Tremblay.

Indian police announced on Monday that they were launching an international manhunt for Kumar, after his accomplices revealed that he had false passports for Canada and Nepal.

The police suspect that he may have crossed over to Nepal via the northeast border.
