A telephone call threatening that a bomb would be placed at the official residence of Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthandandan received by the police control room in Thiruvananthapuram.
Police traced the source of the call made on Saturday night to a pay-and-use phone box installed near a tuition centre at Maranallur in the suburbs of the city. The owner of the tuition centre was taken into custody but let off in the night after questioning, police sources said.
The caller, who mentioned Achuthanandan as 'prime minister', threatened 'dire consequences' for him and said a bomb would be placed at his official residence.Investigations found that there were no students or teachers at the tuition centre at the time when the call was made. The phone had an extension which was installed in an open place close to the tuition centre.
Taking this into account, police suspect that the phone might have been used by some miscreants to issue the threatening call. The space in front of the tuition centre is a parking area for autorickshaws and commercial vehicles.
