Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams, who is among the star speakers at the international astronautical congress which concludes in Hyderabad today, was given a rousing welcome at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre on Friday morning.

The five-day 58th international astronautical congress (IAC 2007) began on Monday, with many space scientists, heads of international space agencies and astronauts – including the first Indian in space, Rakesh Sharma – in attendance.

Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam delivered a special address at the space congress on Thursday, during which he spoke about protecting space assets and using space for the benefit of the people.

The space congress is being held in India after 19 years.

Sunita Williams is scheduled to deliver two speeches today, one on her record-breaking stay on the International Space Station and another on the technicalities of the ISS.
