Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was Saturday night headed for home from Dubai following imposition of emergency in Pakistan, her husband Asif Ali Zardari said.

"Yes, I can confirm that she has left for Pakistan. She is flying to Karachi tonight," he said.

"She knew that emergency is declared in Pakistan and she left for that reason only. She promised the people of Pakistan
that she will be with them in all the time in the need of hour," Zardari told the Indian television channel CNN-IBN.

When asked about his party's reaction to President Pervez Musharraf's latest move, the PPP leader said: "We are
condemning it and hope that we can do something about it. We will oppose the emergency and will make sure that democracy is restored".

Benazir Bhutto's presence "shall rally all the forces of democracy and give everybody the heart that democracy is
alive", Zardari added.

Earlier, a spokesman for PPP had said that Bhutto will not return to Pakistan from Dubai after Musharraf declared
emergency today.
