To mark the death anniversaries of separatist leaders Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone a moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference strike shut down Kashmir on Monday.

While Mirwaiz Farooq was assassinated inside his Nageen residence in capital city this day in 1990, Abdul Gani Lone, the founder of Peoples Conference (PC) fell to assassin's bullets the same day in 2002 while he was attending the anniversary function in Eidgah of the late Mirwaiz.

Work in almost all the state government offices was badly affected even as shops, businesses, public transport, educational institutions and banks are shut in capital Srinagar and other major towns.

However private transport was plying in some areas.

A public rally is being held at the martyr's graveyard in Eidgah area of downtown city Monday afternoon to be addressed by the moderate APHC chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other separatist leaders.
