Nepal Maoists will continue to maintain their "parallel governments" "till a new structure is put in place" after the Himalayan nation is declared a republic, a Maoist leader has said.

"Two regimes, two laws and two armies are still in existence in the country," Maoist youth wing leader Dilip Prajapati said, adding, "The two governments will exist till the time a new structure comes in place replacing the old one."

Prajapati told a meeting in Dhulikhel near Kathmandu on Saturday that the announcement of a republic might spell an end to the existence of parallel regimes.

The General Secretary of Maoist youth wing, the Young Communist League said, "Two parallel governments" exist in the country and people have been showing more belief in the Maoist system of dispensing justice than in the government authorities.

"They come to us expecting justice, with the belief that we can offer that," the General Secretary was quoted as saying by the Kantipur online.
