Four militants, including a self-styled commander of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Baramulla, Poonch and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said in Srinagar.

HuM 'commander' Ishfaq Ahmad Chichi alias Gujjar, a resident of Chatibandi, was killed in a joint operation by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of the state police at Nadihal in Bandipora area of Baramulla district on Tuesday, the spokesman said.

Gujjar, one of the most wanted militants in the Bandipora belt, was killed in an ambush laid by security forces on the basis of a tip-off, he said. A pistol, one magazine, eight rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades were recovered from him, the spokesman said.

In another encounter, the spokesman said security forces shot dead Hizbul Mujahideen militant Mohammad Rafiq Paswal during search operations at village Zarkan in Rajpora area of Pulwama district on Tuesday.

An AK assault rifle and some ammunition were recovered from him. The spokesman said two more militants were killed by security forces in an encounter at Chajja Man post in Balnoi sector in Poonch district on Monday night.

The encounter broke out when troops confronted a group of militants trying to sneak into the valley from across the border, the spokesman said. He added that a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed infiltrators.
