"Security has been strengthened in all minority-dominated areas, particularly the villages attacked by the militants in the past," Inspector General A P Maheshwari told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
Thirty-five Sikhs were massacred at Chattisinghpora in Anantnag district in South Kashmir hours before former US president Bill Clinton landed in New Delhi on March 21, 2000. He said the CRPF and the state police have carried out a detailed survey of all the areas inhabited by members of minority communities in the Valley.
"We have identified and conducted a survey of all the Hindu and Sikh dominated areas in the valley a few days ago. Security has been further beefed up in all such areas," Maheshwari said.
Security agencies across the state have been asked to be in a state of high alert for the next three days following intelligence reports that militants are planning to carry out terror attacks in the state during Bush's visit, top security sources said.
They said security forces armed with snipers and electronic surveillance gadgets have mounted surveillance in vulnerable areas of the state, including Srinagar and Jammu. Night patrolling in sensitive areas along with checking of vehicles is also being done, they said.
