Expressing dissatisfaction with the Central Bureau of Investigation's investigation into the Killiroor sex scandal, a judicial magistrate in Kochi on Monday directed the agency to conduct further investigation into it.
The direction was issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate P D Sarandharan, while considering a petition by Janadhipatiya Vanitha Sangattana, seeking further investigation into the case involving the rape and subsequent death of a minor girl Shari S Nair in 2005.
She was allegedly taken to different places and raped by many persons after being promised roles in television serials.
Shari finally died after giving birth to a baby girl.
Directing further investigaton, the court said the agency had failed to investigate certain important points.
Earlier, the CBI filed a chargesheet before the CJM court against nine accused -- alleging offences punishable under criminal consporacy, rape, procuring of a minor girl, criminal intimidation, cheating and causing disappearance of evidence.
The petitioner contended that the final report submitted by CBI was incomplete and sought a direction for further investigation into the cause of Shari's death.
The CBI told the court that during investigation, excess quantity of copper was found in the victim's blood and that they had obtained expert opinion on it.
The court observed that the explanations had not been sought from the doctors who treated the victim regarding the presence of excess quantity of copper.
"So it is clear that the investigating officer has not conducted any investigation on this point," the court said.
The court noted that only the left out blood sample collected from the victim had been sent for chemical analysis to a laboratory at Hyderabad and that the CBI had filed the final report without waiting for the result.
The court said it is clear from the records that the victim was taken to different places and raped.
She was also taken to a resort at Alapuzha along with some other girls. There were conflicting statements about the visit to the resort, the court said.
