The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front Opposition in Kerala has termed the United Democratic Front government's latest announcement of steps to safeguard the reservation quota of backward classes in government jobs based on the Justice Narendran Commission report, as an 'election stunt.'
The government decision on the report was 'incomplete and lacked sincerity,' LDF convener Paloli Muhammed Kutty told reporters after the LDF's liaison committee meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.
Stating that the government had not come out with measures to fill the backlog of backward classes representation in government offices, he said the LDF was of the view that the backlog ought to be filled. "It was for the government to find ways to fill the backlog," Kutty said when asked whether LDF was in favour of 'special recruitment.'
The UDF government, at the fag end of its tenure, announced 'few decisions' on the report with an eye on the coming assembly polls in the state, he said, adding that the LDF wanted 10 per cent reservation for those below the poverty line category among forward classes.
