J&K: 3 Hizb men nabbed, network busted

Police have unearthed a Hizbul Mujahideen network, planning terrorist strikes in the city ahead of Republic Day, with the arrest of three militants, official sources said in Jammu on Wednesday.

On specific information, a joint team of Jammu police and SOG apprehended Hizbul militant Anwar Shah of Ramban tehsil in Doda district from Krishna Nagar area of the city Tuesday evening where he had taken shelter in a house, they said.

Shah was immediately whisked away to a safe house where police and SOG officials subjected him to sustained interrogation, they said, adding that he disclosed that he had been deputed in Jammu by three Hizbul militants from Ramban, including a Hizbul commander Iftiyaar Ahmed.

Shah had been asked to carry out a recee of the city till the arrival of two more militants after which they had to give a final touch to their plan to carry out strike in the city, they said.

After ascertaining the identity of the militants, police flashed a message to their counterparts in Ramban and sought the help of army in apprehending the militants.

Later, two militants of HM outfit were arrested from Ramban by security forces and police from a hideout whose location was identified by Shah, the militants are being brought here under tight security.

With the arrests a plan to strike ahead of Republic Day has been foiled, they said.
