Additional Commissioner (Relief) Miss Priyadarshini told rediff.com on Tuesday morning, "The flood situation has eased elsewhere in the state through a little problem persists in east and west Godavari districts (on the Andhra coast). The flood waters are receding at all places along the Godavari and its tributaries."
In the worst affected Khammam, east and west Godavari districts, as many as 632 villages remain submerged. In all, 4.72 lakh people from 1.35 lakh families have been evacuated to safer places and accommodated in 296 relief camps.
The death toll in the floods all over the state so far has reached 100, with Khammam, east Godavari and Khammam districts accounting for 29 deaths and the other districts for 71 deaths.
The government has pressed into service one Naval boat and 282 mechanized and country boats for rescue operations. Seven helicopters are conducting sorties for airdropping food packets, drinking water and milk sachets and medicines to the people marooned in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Meteorological Center director Dr Satya Kumar told rediff.com, "The rains have subsided all over the state. Now, it is only scattered rains here and there. No heavy rainfall has been reported from anywhere in coastal Andhra and interior Telangana regions in the last 24 hours."
