Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar continued her hunger strike at the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi, demanding proper rehabilitation of the families affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project even as people all across the country staged relay-fast and hunger strikes to express solidarity with her cause.
Patkar, who was forcibly admitted to the hospital, has been refusing solid food and accepting only water and lemon juice. Her condition was stable and vital parameters like blood pressure and pulse rate were normal, AIIMS Medical Superintendent D K Sharma said.
At the Jantar Mantar Camp, Bhagwatibai Patidar, who had began her fast with Patkar, continued to refuse food for the 10th day today.
Seven persons, including academicians and students, have been observing fast since Thursday, when the police forcibly removed Patkar.
Meanwhile, Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz, Minister for Social Justice Meira Kumar and Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan are touring the villages affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project to assess rehabilitation work.
NBA has claimed that the ministers have cut short their tour and are visiting villages in Madhya Pradesh and not those in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
NBA has been disputing the Centre's claims that almost 90 per cent of the affected people have been rehabilitated.
Support for the NBA is pouring in from across the country with people from Guwahati joining the cause and going on a relay-fast.
Rights groups are also observing hunger strikes in parts of Maharasthra, Bihar, Chhatisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in support of Patkar.
