Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday called on President A P J Abdul Kalam and discussed various issues including deteriorating law and order situation in some of the states.
According to Rashtrapati Bhavan sources, the meeting began at 1230 IST and continued till 1330 IST.
No aides were present during the meeting.
"The prime minister briefed the President about the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work in earthquake-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The deteriorating law and order situation in some states also came up during the meeting. No specific state could be mentioned in this regard," a Rashtrapati Bhavan official said.
The meeting comes a day after terrorists gunned down JK's Education Minister Gulam Nabi Lone at his residence in Tulsibagh on Tuesday.
The last few days have seen communal clashes in Uttar Pradesh' Mau district and 38 people being killed in ethnic violence in Assam.
