Five Hindu villagers were gunned down by unidentified militants at Thubdhar Sakri village in Rajouri district of Jammu on Thursday night.

"A police party has been rushed to the spot after we received reports of the incident early on Friday morning. It will take them five hours to reach the village," Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Dr S P Vaid said.

"We are trying to verify the incident as the village is far off from Rajouri district headquarters," he said.

Sources said a group of militants sprayed bullets at the villagers late Thursday night killing five of them on the spot.

The gunmen later escaped from the spot and district authorities, after receiving the information on Friday morning, rushed police to the area.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the killings.

Police in Rajouri said the body of a woman with her throat slit, identified as Shamima Akhtar, was recovered from Kadi village. Police has rushed to the spot.
