Jammu and Kashmir rural development minister Peerzada Mohammad Syed had narrowly escaped a bomb blast in Baramulla district on Sunday afternoon, official sources said.

A constable of the state Congress chief's escort vehicle was injured in the attack.

The device planted by militants on the main road at Bumbi-Sopore, 60 km from Srinagar, went off minutes after Peerzada's vehicle passed the road around 4.15pm and hit a police vehicle escorting the minister.

The vehicle was damaged and a constable travelling in it injured, they said.

Police and security forces reached the spot and cordoned the area immediately after the incident, the sources said.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the act.
