Accusing the Centre of trying to "violate" the Common Minimum Programme by proposing disinvestment in BHEL, the Communist Party of India-Marxist on Wednesday said it would oppose the move tooth and nail and would continue to protest anti-people policies" of the coalition government.

"The United Progressive Alliance has promised in the Common Minimum Programme that government stakes in public sector undertakings will not be sold.

Any move to disinvest a navratna company like BHEL will amount to violation of CMP," CPI (M) politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said while inaugurating the 21st conference of the party's Andhra Pradesh unit in this naxalite stronghold town in Telangana region.

Stating that the strength of Left parties had reached a level where no party or coalition could run the government without the support of the Left, Yechuri said: "Even while supporting the government, we should mount pressure on it to ensure implementation of the common minimum programme."
