India on Friday rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir by the Organisation of Islamic Conference, asserting that the body had 'no locus standi' to comment on matters concerning its internal affairs.
OIC supports Pakistan on Kashmir
"We are surprised that the OIC, in its 3rd Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference held in Mecca, made references on Jammu and Kashmir, an integral part of the Indian union, in its final communique," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said in New Delhi.
"We have consistently maintained that the OIC has no locus standi to comment on the matters concerning India's internal affairs, and we completely reject all such references," he said.
Toeing Pakistan's line, the 57-member OIC extended its support to the inalienable right of Kashmiri people to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations resolutions, at its two-day meeting in Mecca from December seven.
In a declaration issued after the summit, attended among others by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, OIC also called for respect of the human rights of the Kashmiri people and agreed to provide all possible political and diplomatic support to the representatives of Kashmiri people.
