India may adopt 100 Afghan villages

India's proposal to adopt 100 villages in Afghanistan is being finalised in consultation with the government of Afghanistan, the Lok Sabha was told Wednesday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his visit to Afghanistan on August 28-29, had announced the proposal adopt villages to promote integrated rural development by introducing solar electrification and rainwater harvesting using technologies that have been developed and successfully demonstrated in India, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said in a written reply.

The progress on Zarang-Delaram Road Project in Afghanistan being constructed by India was 10 percent, Ahamed said. The government has sanctioned Rs 377.47 crore for the project.
