In a pre-dawn operation, troops shot dead four militants trying to cross the Line of Control into Pakistan in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
An army team saw a group of four militants near the LoC in Kamalkote area around 0100 hrs Tuesday and asked them to surrender, but despite repeated warnings, they tried to flee and cross over to the other side, a defence spokesman said.
The troops then opened fire killing the exfiltrators, two of whom have been identified as Sajjad Ahmad of Tral and Farooq Ahmad of Pampore, he said.
The identity of the other two was not yet known, he added.
