The organisers, Federation of Indian Association (FIA), an umbrella body of Indian organisations across the Tristate area-- a colloquialism used to refer to the area where New York, New Jersey and Connecticut meet-- left no stone unturned. Celebrating its Silver Jubilee year, the event was an unqualified success.

The parade began by noon. The front line began moving from 45th and Madison Avenue, followed by 41 floats and about 26 groups that performed various Indian dance forms.

Groups representing the women's organisation Sakhi and the Sankara Eye Foundation also participated, using the parade to spread their individual messages.
