Zaheera Sheikh, the key witness in the Best Bakery case, has not yet left for Mumbai to depose before a special court in connection with the summons issued for retrial of the case, police said in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

"Zaheera is still in Vadodara. She and her family members are under police protection and at a completely safe location. I am not aware of any summons issued to her," Vadodara Police Commissioner S K Sinha told PTI over phone.

He said she would be taken to Mumbai under police protection whenever it would be required.

Regarding any action police was contemplating against Mumbai-based social activist Teesta Setalvad following allegations made by Zaheera on Wednesday, the Commissioner said, "We will take appropriate action when, and if, Zaheera files an FIR in connection with her allegations."

"The summons were issued by the Special Court about 15 days back for Zaheera to give her statement. But they were not served to her by Teesta. So how can she appear before the court?" Zaheera's counsel Atul Mistri told PTI.
