Roy takes charge as Mumbai CP

A N Roy took over as the new commissioner of Mumbai Police on Thursday.

Outgoing Commissioner P S Pasricha handed over the charge to Roy at the Crawford Market city police headquarters.

Roy's last posting was as commissioner in Pune.

Talking to reporters, Roy, said he would not like to get identified with any personality, organisation or party and would stick to basic policing aiming at providing relief to the common man.
 
Roy is taking over from P S Pasricha, who was promoted under controversial circumstances and placed with the Maharashtra State Police Welfare and Housing Corporation, an insignificant posting.

Clarifying media reports about his proximity to certain political leaders, he said: "I am nobody's man. I am law's man, and if at all, man of common man.

One of the youngest police commissioners of Mumbai, 53-year-old Roy said: "We want to give a clean, transparent, corruption-free and efficient administration.
